Media freedom and protection of journalists is crucial for the health of the European democracy. The issue has been rising at the European political agenda, with publication of the Media Act planned for autumn and an ongoing discussion about the effects of digital legislation (DSA, DMA) on media.

At the same time, media and journalists are facing multiple challenges stemming from technological changes, political pressures, and the shifting economic environment.

In this context, the project will:

  • Stir the Slovak stakeholder debate on the topics related to the European Media Act, including relevant stakeholders from the media sector (including journalists) in the formulation of national positions.
  • Increase the stakeholders´ and public awareness of the challenges faced by media and journalists in Europe and contribute to the formulation of national policies.
  • Support the exchange of experience and practices in the wider Central European region on the protection of media freedom and journalists.

The project is being implemented from April to November 2022. Project activities are carried out in cooperation with the Prague Office of Heinrich-Böll-Stiftung.
