Policymakers on both sides of the Atlantic better serve their own national defense and security agendas when their national strategies are conscious of transatlantic interests and values. A strong transatlantic partnership is essential to successful foreign policy implementation and Slovakia commits to it as well. However, various – often hybrid – challenges undermine such reality. Moreover, unprecedented attack on Ukraine, direct Slovak neighbor, transformed the notion of “continuous peace in Europe”, and once again raised questions about the price of security and further of defense.

The project of EuroPolicy therefore reflects upon these disputes, with the general objective of highlighting the role of the Alliance as a guarantor of the security in Central and Eastern Europe.

The project is further structured around three strategic objectives:

  • through a fact-based, fair arguments and quality discussion (using the potential of our regular/ad-hoc cooperation with other media (print, TV/Radio, online)), to contribute in developing an informed public debate about the Transatlantic defense cooperation and its current agenda, particularly during (and hopefully after) war in Ukraine, that ultimately adds to resilience building among stakeholders and general public (as heightened politization of the debate on the Transatlantic defense cooperation takes place in Slovakia and public debate keeps on facing increased pressure of disinformation campaigns);
  • to increase stakeholders‘ awareness of issues, related to security cooperation and priorities in the new strategic agenda of NATO, heavily influenced by the new security realities;
  • to underline capacity and resilience building, as well as and unity within the Transatlantic region as key components shared in the securing the stability and freedom in Europe, especially in the CEE region, currently neighboring country directly involved in war, triggered by Russia;

The project is being implemented from June to December 2022.
